St. F.X. Victorious in Pre-Season
Tilt; Lone Chinese Debuts for Bums

TORONTO — With the league
opening only two weeks away, all
teams of the Toronto Nisei Hockey
League are slowly rounding into
shape. Bums, one of the last to
start training, tangled with Saint
F.X. in a pre-season game on Dec.
4 and were nosed out 6-5 in a
wide-open game.

Newly-installed coach for the

F.X.’s coach Conacher threw in
all the reserves to get them ac_

Bum’s
captain,. Maw
Mori,
still
a
little
shaky,
showed
though
flashes of his brilliant form of last
season when he waltzed through
the St. F.X. team to set up perfect
passes which his line-mates failed
to convert. Their surprise pack
age. a Chinese player, showed up
well.
Playing manager Tosh Sakura
of the Catholicmen showed the
way- with two goals and an assist.
Opposing goalies Ronnie Tsuji of
X, and Ken Goto of the
Bums showed by their performances that forwards will have a
tough time denting the hemp,
Tsuji, on his first time in a Nisei
.league, blocked and shoved aside
the puck as effectively as any
goalie in the league.
Over 40 players turned out to
the first Rocket practice, and
captain Kiyo Tamura and man
ager Saki
Matsumoto selected
the most likely prospects for the
second
practice session
right
after the St. F.X.-Bums game.
They have a tough decision to
make—whether to keep all the
veterans or start off with some
unknown rookies.

Homestead Restaurant, the bestbalanced team, according to co
managers Mas Nakao and Mits
Otsu, will meet Rovers on Dec. 11.
and Danforth and Bums will get
together in the second hour.
Rover coach Jeep Inamoto and
• manager Fred Miyasaki.will string
along
two forward lines.

Their strategy is to depend on
iron man Yuki Kameoka who is
a sixty-minute man, and gamble on
'the theory that two strong forward lines would be better than
two fairly strong and a weak third
