THE YEAR IS OVER
AS 1955 nears, and 1954 begins to re
cede into the shadows of the forgotten
past, we take a look at what (we hope)
the coming year holds for us. We have
reached some vague interpretation of
our ideas for the twelve months ahead
of us and wish to record them here.
But we cannot resist a last peek at
and some final comments on the
CHRISTMAS ISSUE:
In those weeks preparatory to the 56page edition, this “man behind the
desk” existed in a state of trauma, re
linquishing some of his daily rituals
such as meals, sleep, etc. (although we
never did miss the happy travails of
Pogo and his Okefenokee cohorts as
they decked the halls “with Boston
Charlie” . . .).
A big thanks to all who helped to
make those three weeks such a wonder
ful experience for us. For despite an
almost constant occupation, those weeks
were generously sprinkled with mom
ents to be enjoyed.
Thanks also to our advertisers with
out whose support the Holiday Issue
could not have been . . etc., etc.
THE COMING YEAR
We are ambitious in our programme
for the coming new year. We have gen
eralized our plans into two principal
aims:
1. To get more Nisei writers into these

pages. Tne New Canadian has continued
these several years with a cooperation
of correspondents (and readers) which
we hope will continue in the new year,
and in years to come. And further, in
1955, we hope to increase our contribu
tors so that The New Canadian may be
more representative of the many differ
ent parts of this country in which we
live, and of greater interest to Canadians
everywhere.
2. To present our news, features, et
al. in good readable fashion and to pro
vide material of greater interest to our
readers.
And behind it all will be an ultimate
goal of happiness and “good will among
men” in this world.
Too idealistic? Then, let’s say. at
least, that we shall strive for greater
understanding of each other, for more
happiness for all — so that we may get
the most from day to day out of this
existence of which we are part.
