Calif. Nisei Ordained
As Benedictine Monk
In Minnesota
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. —
The Rev. Patrick George Okada,
OSB, son of Iwakichi Okada of
Colusa, Calif., celebrated his first
solemn Mass last Sunday at St.
Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mar­
ysville Calif.). He is the first
Nisei to be ordained a Benedic­
tine Monk of St. John’s Abbey

Fr. Okada, born in Colusa, was
received into the Catholic Church
and baptized in 1942. That year
he volunteered for Army service
and served in the China-BurmaIndia theatre until 1946.
In July, 1948, he entered St.
John’s Abbey and was given the
religious name of Patrick. In
1951 he received his B. A. degree
in philosophy and education from
St. John’s College, took his so­
lemn vows the following year.
