Canauians of Chinese and Japanese origin—which could hardly have
been a popular cause in an age when these races were commonly
regarded as inferior. This was a forerunner of a vigorous campaign
-15 years later, when The Star fought for fair compensation to Japa
nese. Canadians who had been driven from their homes and lands
on the Pacific coast after Pearl Harbor, and denounced Ottawa’s
plan to deport them to Japan.
