Kikuo Sumi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Toshiaki Sumi of Toronto re
ceived notification that he passed his examinations successfully am.
ha< been conferred a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering trom London
University in England dated, Jan. 14, 1957. Sumi, now employed at
the National Research Council in Ottawa, graduated chemical^ en
gineering’ at University of Toronto in 1951, and had studied—at .Lon
don University for two years on a National Research Council
scholarship finishing last November.

WINNIPEG.—Harry Haruo Taniguchi, third son or Mr. and
Mrs. Rokusaburo Taniguchi of Winnipeg, received'his Ph.D. in New
York after having graduated from the University of Manitoba. Since
January this year, he has been working at the McGill University

Joyce Maycda, 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. i.
Mayeda of Mortimer Ave., Toronto, gained two firsts in piano solos
in the current Kiwanis Music Festival at Eaton Auditorium. Last
Wednesday, in the 16 years and under class, she won top honors
in piano solos by Bach' and on Thursday night she topped the 14
years and under class in sonatinas. -
