I Toichiro Takeuchi clapped his hands together twice
^in front of the small mountain shrine, murmured a
ihrief prayer, then turned resolutely and walked away.
Ut was snowing heavily, but he was barefooted and

Suddenly he whipped out a sword and started slashing
at an imaginary foe in front of him, shouting at each
'stroke of the sword.

dojo built here more than four centuries before—
repaired many times, yes, but never rebuilt.
Practicing- jujitsu barefooted in the snow is not at
all unusual for this nail-tough farmer. Indeed, Takeuchi

OSAKA. A Canadian Agricultural organization,
eagerly wishing to employ diligent and"ambitious
Japanese workers, has sent a request to Osaka
recently to dispatch about 50 Japanese emigrants
as soon as possible.
The letter of urgent request, from the Alberta
Potato Growers Association, was received by the
Osaka Office of the Overseas Emigration Association.

A considerable number of Japanese emigrants
have left for Canada every year since the countrv
was opened to Japanese in 1965. This is the first
time that such a large number of emigrants have
been invited by a Canadian sponsor, which pro­
