winning the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament
by beating Yokozuna Tamanoumi twice in a row
at the Kuramae Sumo Arena, Tokyo.
Taiho, whose real name is Ko'ki Naya, stood
like a great insurmountable rock before the awe
some challenge of Tamanoumi, who was determin
ed to clinch his third straight championship ir,
the final match of the 15-day tournament.
