TORONTO. — Everyone is cordially invited to attend the
performance of “Michi” a Canadian Japanese playlet on Saturday,
April 14 at 8 p.m. at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, 123
Wynford Drive in Don Mills. Tickets are $1.50 available at the door.
MICHI — is a story of a young Nisei (2nd generation) girl
and takes place between 1941-45. The first scene is in Vancouver,
on Po-well Street, the popular Japanese quarters. The second scene
is located in Kaslo, one of the towns in the interior of British
Columbia used for Japanese Canadian evacuees. The final scene
takes place in Beamsville, a small Ontario town, where Michi’s
family is relocated.
The object of this performance is to show the human ele
ments of the evacuation story, to entertain, and to encourage the
Sanseis (3rd generation) in fuller participation in theatrical ven
tures at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre
Proceeds of the evening’s performance will be used to start a
Canadian Japanese Dramatics Society. J.C.C.C.

VANCOUVER. — The Senior Citizens’ “New Horizons” pro
ject took a major step towards becoming an active undertaking
with decisions and plans formulated at the initial discussion meeting
held on February 24 at the Japanese Language School.
Under the sponsorship of the Greater Vancouver JCCA, 21
persons met to discuss and plan a variety of programs designed
to bring about the active participation of all Japanese Canadian
senior citizens in keeping with the Federal Government’s object
ives in its recently announced “New Horizons” project.
Some of the topics agreed on included:
— Appointment of district representatives in the Greater
Vancouver area to facilitate dissemination of program information
and membership inquiries with a view to actual formation of the
JCCA Senior Citizens Asesociation.
— Assessment of a nominal fee of $1.00 per member to
defray costs of printing and distributing membership cards and of
holding an inaugural party in the near future.
— Programming and budgeting of recreational, sports and
cultural activities especially designed for the enjoyment of senior
citizens,

The new Association now being- formed and the “New Ho
rizons” project apply to all old-age pensioners, including those who
are still active in their normal occupations. All Japanese old-age
pensioners are urged to apply for membership. The younger people
are asked to encourage the elderly to join by getting in touch as
soon as possible with their district representatives (see below for
names).

Co-operation of all Japanese Canadian organizations is iequested in bringing the program to the attention of their eldeily
members and encouraging them to join.
It is vitally important that as many old age pensioners as
possible apply for membership at the earliest date to enable the
formative Association to prepare an adequate over-all budget and
submit it to the federal government for approval.

VANCOUVER. — The Senior Citizens’ “New Horizons” pro
ject took a major step towards becoming an active undertaking
with decisions and plans formulated at the initial discussion meeting
held on February 24 at the Japanese Language School.
Under the sponsorship of the Greater Vancouver JCCA, 21
persons met to discuss and plan a variety of programs designed
to bring about the active participation of all Japanese Canadian
senior citizens in keeping with the Federal Government’s object
ives in its recently announced “New Horizons” project.
Some of the topics agreed on included:
— Appointment of district representatives in the Greater
Vancouver area to facilitate dissemination of program information
and membership inquiries with a view to actual formation of the
JCCA Senior Citizens Asesociation.
— Assessment of a nominal fee of $1.00 per member to
defray costs of printing and distributing membership cards and of
holding an inaugural party in the near future.
— Programming and budgeting of recreational, sports and
cultural activities especially designed for the enjoyment of senior
citizens,

The new Association now being- formed and the “New Ho
rizons” project apply to all old-age pensioners, including those who
are still active in their normal occupations. All Japanese old-age
pensioners are urged to apply for membership. The younger people
are asked to encourage the elderly to join by getting in touch as
soon as possible with their district representatives (see below for
names).

Co-operation of all Japanese Canadian organizations is iequested in bringing the program to the attention of their eldeily
members and encouraging them to join.
It is vitally important that as many old age pensioners as
possible apply for membership at the earliest date to enable the
formative Association to prepare an adequate over-all budget and
submit it to the federal government for approval.
Present at the initial meeting were: T. Asaoka. M. Banno,
S. Edamura, K. Fukunaga, S. Fukuyama, Mrs. M. Furukawa, S.
Hara, G. K. KazutaJC. Kimura, R. Kobayashi, T. Minato, S. Miyagawa Mrs. I. Miyazawa, Bob Miyasaka, K. Mori, T. Nishikihama,
K. Ogawa, K. Otsuji, Mrs. G. Tsuji, F. Nobby Fujisawa, and James
Horiuchi.
Mr. M. Uchida and Mr. Y. Asano were elected president
and vice-president, respectively, in. absentia and^ subject to their
approval. Mr. M. Banno is Treasuiei . Messrs. K. Kimura and T.
Minato are co-chairmen of promotion.
