Japan Student
Killed In Hotel
NEW
ORLEANS. — Three
burglars in a New Orleans hotel
shot and killed a Japanese uni
versity student on a sight-seeing
tour of the U.S., Sept. 10.
Yosuke Yano, 24, a senior ma
joring in mathematics at Kyushu
Univ, decided to stay at a hotel
in New Orleans with three Japa
nese male friends he had met in
a southern American city. How.
ever, Yano was assigned to a
room separate from his compan
ions.
Because of the heat and a mal
function in the cooling system in
his room, Yano went downstairs
around mid-night to ask if he
could change rooms. He then en
countered the three burglars who
had entered to rob the hotel and
was shot, according to a report
sent to Yano’s father.

Yano left Tokyo on Aug. 9 for
Los Angeles where his aunt lives
and was scheduled to return home
in early October. He was to join
the Sumitomo Bank upon gradua
tion in March next year.
