HAMILTON, Ontario. — The Hamilton J.C.C.A’s Keiro-Shimbokukai (party in honor of the senior citizens) was held at Ha
milton Multicultural Center Hall on Feb. 1st.
“Learn the teaching and respond with respect to the aged” and
“Talk friendly and have fun in Japanese” were the two mottos
pasted on the wall. These mottos were well carried throughout the
party which lasted over- 5 hours.
Girls’ Japanese dance, songs, and instrumental music were
presented; MC’ed by both Mr. Kawai and Mr. Kadonaga. Most noniceable changes in this party from the for iner ones were that all
the Issei were treated as guests of honor and many more Nisei
and Sansei entertained them instead of Issei doing the job.
Attending from the Toronto area were Mr. & Mrs. Arino,
Consul General of Japan, Mr. Edward Ide and his father. Mr. & Mrs.
yashi, Toronto JjCXLA., President, and Mrs. Hayashi, Mr. & Mrs.
Y. Iwasaki and Mr. & Mrs. T. Umezuki. Both Mr. Arino and Mr.
Hayashi gave speeches and Mr. Ide reported on the forthcoming
Japariese Canadian History Book.
After explaining the meaning of the two mottos, Lawyer Mr.
Paul Tokiwa made a speech in which he said, “The Nisei who were
brought up by pioneer Issei have mainly tried to establish them
selves economically in this society, but for the future of Sansei
is different. They are given the opportunity to go into whatever
they want, and we hope that the seed the Issei planted will grow
and bloom in many places in the future.”
Among oher things that pleased us, it was especially nice to
see everybody do their share in the party, including the toddlers
helping to collect empty boLt’es and cans, from the table.
The party ended successfully with the presentation of door
prizes.
