of the Association "for - Asian Studies will .hold an open meeting
during the Association’s annual convention at the Waldorf-Astoria
Hotel-in New "York , on March 25, 1977. The AssociatiorTfor Asian
Studies us the 'world’s largest organization .of Asian specialists, anddtiis estimated that approximately 1,500 members of this Association:
ere those of Asian descent. The open meeting will deal with the
following .three basic objectives of the Committee:
' * - (1) ' to''create a” greater" awareness, of the. unique position of

scholars of> Asian' descent within the profession; (2) to serve as

a ^forum to induce and promote, greater participation of scholars

of Asian descent in the governance of the Association for Asian
-Studies; and; (3.) to; study and identify problems unique to scholars
of Asian descent and' to assist finding ways and means to over­
come the particular, problems and thus improve their professional
effectiveness.
The Committee is currently chaired by Professor Akira Kubota,
