WINNIPEG. — The 1982 Canadian Heritage Festival will be
held in the province of Manitoba July 14-27, Jim Fleming, the
Minister of State for Multiculturalism announced here recent
ly, following discussions with Eugene Kostyra, Manitoba's
Minister of Cultural Affairs and Historical Resources.
Under the sponsorship of Multiculturalism Canada, the
Canadian Heritage Festival is an annual folkloric performing
arts event which has been held with provincial cooperation
and support since its inception in 1974. Last year's festival
was held in the Greater Vancouver area of British Columbia.
Mr. Fleming said that this year's Canadian Heritage Festi
val, which is being provided with $250,000 in federal funds,
will showcase the variety and quality of folkloric performing
arts talent from across Canada, with particular emphasis on
Manitoba's heritage communities. Events are scheduled for
Brandon, Selkirk and Winnipeg.
Brandon and Selkirk are also celebrating their 100th anni
versaries this year.
