on the West Coast as well

VANCOUVER. — The Powell Street Festival, which will
be held on July 31st and
August 1st, at Oppenheimer
Park, will now be sponsored
by the JCCA. The JCCA ex
tended its appreciation to the
organizations (Tonari Gumi,
Powell Street Revue, Japa
nese Immigrants Assoc., and
Sakura-so) which have spon
sored the Festival for the past
four years. These groups
have been the driving force
behind the growth and suc
cess of the Festival.
Given its present size and
importance, both the Festival
Committee and the JCCA
agreed that it would be in the
best interests of the whole
community to have the JCCA
become the sole sponsor. In
February an agreement was
reached, the terms of which
are: 1) The JCCA will become
the sole sponsor and take
over all financial responsibilities. 2) The Committee will
continue to use its existing
organizational
organizational structure

procedures, including the
operation of its own account,
3) The Committee will make
regular financial and pro
gramming reports to the
JCCA, with the JCCA having
the final authority in financial
matters. 4) This sponsorship
will be effective until October
1982 when both the Festival
Committee and the JCCA will

at knifepoint by two men who
attempted to rob him and
then fled when they found he
had no money, police said.
Hideyuki Tsuta was not
seriously injured, although he
was punched in the face by
his attackers, according to
Sgt. John Madden.
Tsuta was about to enter
his home shortly after 11 p.m.
when he was grabbed from
behind by one of the attack

TOKYO. — The use of solar
energy to produce liquid hy
drogen from sea-water is ex
pected to bring about a “hydrogen economy” within a

gasoline in liquid form, and
has a caloric value 2.5 times
that of gasoline,” Tokio Ota,
professor of engineering at
Yokohama National univer
sity, said in an interview.
Ota, known in Japan as
“Dr. Hydrogen,” said he has
devised a* way of creating hy
drogen from seawater in a re
search effort called Project
Ocean
Rafts.

cans.
Interviews recently in seve
ral communities around the
country and a new poll of
public opinion commission
ed by NHK, the Japanese
television network, indicate
there is still a deep reservoir
of admiration in this country
for the Japanese people as
well as respect for Japan's
industrial prowess.
But the poll, conducted by
telephone by the Gallup Poll
organization for Potomac
Associates of Washington,
indicated 63 percent of
Americans had a favorable at
titude toward Japan, while 29
percent had an unfavorable
attitude.
In a 1980 poll, 84 percent of
Americans looked favorably
on Japan and 12 percent had
negative feelings. In a 1972 '
poll, 72 percent held favor
able views and 17 percent un
favorable.
