leaflets, whose words and
cartoons were designed to
demoralize Japanese fighting
men.
An illuminating book on
the subject came out in late
1981. 11 i s “Sayonara Nippon”
(Goodbye, Japan) by Sho Us
ami, published by Shobunsha.
The book is essentially a bio
graphy of an artist couple how they grew up, traveled to
the United States and served
their country that was at war
with their motherland. It was

thor of “The New Sun” an \\lustrated autobiography of
the artist which won favorable

response, in the U:S., when it
