Nisei fisherman's wife
lost overboard in fog
near Alert Bay, B.C.

COURTENAY, B.C. — Taya Hananishi, who worked qp the
fishing boat that her husband named after her, drowned on
Sept 18th when she fell overboard in thick fog off Haddington
Island near Alert Bay, RCMP in this Vancouver Island com­
munity said.
Her husband, Hiroichi Hananishi, was the only other per­
son on board at the time of the accident. He was apparently
pulling tires from The side of the commercial vessel Taya-H
when his wife fell overboard, police said.
Police said her body was recovered about 41/2 hours later
by the federal fisheries vessel Chilco Post.
The Taya-H was believed to be on its way to Alert Bay from
Sointulal Police are still investigating, but foul play is not
susp'ected.
