TORONTO — On the occasion of the birthday of His
Majesty the Emperor of Japan, the Japanese government
has announced the granting of awards to six Canadians
residing in the Province of Ontario.
The awards are in recognition of outstanding contri
bution which the recipients have made over the years to
mutual understanding and goodwill between the peoples
of Japan and Canada.
The recipients are: Dr. W. Howard H. Norman, Mr.
Yoriki Iwasaki, Mr. Tomojiro Kadonaga, Mrs. Hide
Shimizu, Mr. Sadamu Sato and Mrs. Kizue Tanaka.

pionship for the fourth time in Toronto, was
also a member of the U.B.C. Women's Team

Invitations to a special audience with His Majesty the
Emperor at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on the morning
of May 16, 1983, and to the Presentation of Awards on
the afternoon of the same day at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs have been received by four of the above recipients
who were, at birth, Japanese nationals: Mr. Iwasaki, Mr.
Kadonaga, Mr. Sato and Mrs. Tanaka. With the excep
tion of Mrs. Tanaka, these recipients, together with their Issei Sagawa was declared

He served as head of Kyo
do's bureau in Bonn and
Washington, and he also was
editor-in-chief of the Japa
nese edition of the Readers
Digest.
Funeral service was held at
his home in Tokyo March 29.

championship meet was part

Majesty the Emperor of Japan, the Japanese government
has announced the granting of awards to six Canadians
