WASHINGTON — Army Ranger PFC Mark O. Yamane,
20, of Seattle was among those killed in the fighting on
Grenada the week of October 25th, according to the office
of Rep. Joel Pritchard (R-Wa.).
A 1981 graduate of Shoreline High School, Yamane was
an outstanding student and an athlete who decided to pursue
opportunities in the military before attending college. His
parents, Charlotte and George Yamane, did not know their
, son had been among the forces that invaded Grenada until
an Army sergeant knocked on their door October 27th.
The Yamanes refused to praise or criticise the U.S. govern
ment's action in sending troops to Grenada. “I'm just a
■ citizen of the U.S.,” George Yamane said. “The ultimate goal
; for us all is everlasting peace. Somehow or other in this world,
■ we are not reaching that.”
