received a first place trophy
and $250 from Joe Duncan,
the 2nd place National win
ner last year. The banquet
also celebrated the 50th_
Canadian Carpenter's Ap
prenticeships anniversary.

Nakagawa received his ap
prenticeship through the Port
Alberni Union No. 513, work
ing the past four years under
local carpenters Bob Sinclair
and Kent Germansen.
The young carpenter said
he found the competition
“fun,” and he “enjoyed
meeting the other competi
tors.” Having met the chal
lenge of three competitions,
Victoria, Prince Rupert and
now Vancouver, Nakagawa
will sit as a judge in next
year's contest.
At 23, Nakagawa is “look
ing forward to hanging up his
tools,” and possibly expan
ding horizons in the architec
tural world.
