TORONTO. — For whom the bell tolls? It tolls for thee,
Japanese Canadians on New Year's Eve at Ontario Place.
Ever since the Japanese Canadian Centennial Year, 1977,
on New Year's Eve, the bell at Ontario Place has tolled at
midnight to usher in the New Year. This is the 10th anniver
sary since the Japanese Canadian Bell has been placed at
Ontario Place and the bell will peal to greet 1987 at the stroke
of midnight.
If you are not celebrating New Year's Eve elsewhere, the
committee cordially invites you to attend this bell-tolling
ceremony. Ontario Place can accommodate any number of
people and parking is free.
The people will start gathering about 11:30 p.m. in prepa
ration for this event. It will be an experience to attend the
Bell-tolling ceremony — quite a contrast to all other tradi
tional ways of greeting the New Year!
