Japanese group of academi

previously conducted a pub

Japanese Canadian redress
through an ad in the Globe

The purpose of the rally
was to promote the solidarity
of support for Japanese Can

groups.
This rally brought together
16 leaders of the national
ethnic groups the majority
belonging to the Canadian
Ethnocultural Council. Each
of the 16 leaders spoke sin
cerely and impressively of his
and her organization's posi
tion of support for Japanese
Canadian Redress which was
a truly powerful and emo-
tional demonstration of unity
for justice. The audience was
deeply moved by this display
of ethnic unanimity of con
cern for a basic civil and
human rights issue affecting
all minority groups.
The resolution which was
adopted and signed by all 16
leaders reads:
WHEREAS, in the name of
national security, cruel, ex
treme and unjustified mea
sures provoked by racism

Reagan appointee makes slur
COLUMBIA, S.C. — William
C. Verity, President Reagan's
incoming commerce secreta
ry, used the slur “Japs” dur
ing a speech on Oct. 16. The
Association Press quoted
Verity, who was discussing
the benefits of a Rapid Ac
quisition of Manufactured
Parts program, as saying,
“You have a reduction of ini ventory costs due to ‘just in
time’ delivery, a new concept
that we had, the Japs took
and now we're going to take
it back.”
In response to Verity's
aspersion, Ron Wakabayashi,
national director of the JACL,
said “I'm completely outrag
ed that a person at that level
could be that insensitive.”
Rep. Robert Matsui (D-Calif.)
also denounced Verity's re
marks, saying, “Mr. Verity's
words served as a dangerous
insult to Japanese Americans
and to all Americans who
share a pride in their heritage.
The policies formulated by
this nation's Commerce
secretary affect the lives of
every American. I am con
cerned that a man of this high
position could make such a
gross slander, whether it be
ing a ‘slip of the tongue’ or
not.” ‘
“It won't help relations
between Japan and our coun
try,” said John Saito, JACL
Pacific Southwest District
regional director. “Mr.

Vocal Changer for Multi-Track Tapes
bOMlfi
When playing a multi-track tape, the vocal
track will be automatically muted as you
sing.
When you stop singing, the pre-recorded
vocal track is automatically restored.
This is helpful if you have forgotten the
lyrics of a song or are unsure about the
timing or tempo.
You can even form a duo with a
professional singer, by singing the male or
female part along with the recorded female
or male track on duo songs.
Please call us for a list of the latest multi
track Karaoke tape library.
