posed monument to Japanese
American combat veterans of
World War II will honor the contri
butions made by the 13,639
combat veterans from the Nikkei
community who served in the
armed forces even as their famil
ies were imprisoned in concen
tration camps.
The memorial, to be included
in the First Street Plaza Project
now being developed, was
backed by the 100th/442nd/MIS
World War II Monument Commit
tee, a joint committee of the
100th/442nd Veterans Associa
tion and the Military Intelligence
Service Club of Southern Cali
fornia.
Plans call for more than
13,000 surnames to be placed in
a dramatic way on the monu
ment. The committee believes
the experience of seeing the.

to social work practice and social welfare on the 75th Anniversary
of the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. The presen
tation was made at a special Alumni Recognition Dinner held Octo
ber 12th at the Hart House.
The Hon. John .BlackAird, Chancellor of the University, presented
Mr. Thurlow with her scroll. More than 40 nominations were received
and considered by the Planning Faculty.

nese to be inducted into the Au
tomotive Hall of Fame on
October 10th in Detroit.
Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in
1906, Mr. Honda spent fifteen
years working for, then owning a
branch of Art Shokai (an auto
mobile repair shop). In 1948, he
founded the Honda Motor Co.
Ltd. and remained President of
the company until 1973. He was
named Supreme Advisor of
Honda Motor Co. Ltd. in 1973, a
position he holds to this day. Mr.
Honda has been honoured inter
nationally for his outstanding
contribution to the global auto
motive industry.

berta riding of Wetaskiwin.
Littlechild said Indians need to
set targets, much like Japan did
after the Second World War
when it decided, in successive
decades, to lead the world in
production of textiles, steel, au
tomobiles and computers.
“If you shoot in the dark, you’ll
hit it every time. We have to have
targets.”
