“Growing pains” of Vancouver JCCA — Open letter and response
Response by Vancouver JCCA Executive Board:
Open letter by Gordon H. Kadota:
• There have been some changes in the structure and direction of the
JCCA of Greater Vancouver which I personally feel are disturbing and of
which the public is not informed. Because the JCCA has a history in Van
couver for over 35 years, and the public at large has supported it through
memberships and donations for this length of time, I believe they should
be informed of the changes which are taking place.
The silent majority which I believe is being bypassed consists, for the
most part, of Nisei, although there are a fair number of Issei and Sansei
who may be of like mind with the views which I wish to put forth. The
changes in structure and direction of the JCCA, which I feel are not in
the best interest of our community, have to do with both financial manage.ment and the parting from traditions, events
(Continued on page 2)
• Thanks to Charles Kadota, we have an opportunity to presents another
perspective. He is correct. There have been some changes at the JCCA,
however, one of them is not an abandoning of our responsibility to spend
the donated monies any less frugally or wisely. This wil remain a vitally
important role of the JCCA, which will continue to remain a mainly volun
teer-run organization.
Dedicated volunteers: As in the evolution of many voluntary organiza
tions, the changes occuring in the JCCA are typical. Community organi
zations such as ours are born in an unusual manner because group of
dedicated volunteers recognize a need and address these needs. As an
organization begins to succeed and grow, it becomes evident that the
work can no longer be done by volunteers

Bishop Fukahori
of Takamatsu
visits Montreal
Catholic Mission
(Montreal Bulletin)
MONTREAL. - The St.
Paul Ibaraki Japanese
Catholic Mission had a plea
sant surprise on November 4,
1990 with an unexpected visit
from Most Reverend Joseph
Satoshi Fukahori, Bishop of 1
Takamatsu, Japan. He
celebrated a Mass in the
memory of late Father Claude
Labrecque, and gave a glimp
se of the Roman Synod where
he represented the Japanese
bishops.
It was truly inspiring to
hear the details of the Synod
first hand. The Mission
chapel was filled with Sisters
of Christ The King, Faithfuls
and friends. All were moved
greatly to hear that the main
event of the Synod was the
coming of bishops of Com
munist countries after 45
years of absence.
During the luncheon,
Bishop Fukahori showed
several photos of the Synod
taken with the Pope and other
bishops from 108 countries.
Bishop Fukahori is a
graduate of Grand Seminaire
de Montreal, where he
studied for five years during
his youth. He was ordained a
priest at Mary Queen of the
World Cathedral, and cele
brated his First Mass at
Hospital Sacre Coeur in Cartierville. His summer months
were often spent at Val
leyfield where Cardinal Leger
was then Vicar General.
Montreal and its surroun
ding place filled young Abbe
Fukahori's heart, and
memories lived vividly in his
heart for the past 36 years
without fading its colour.
Though they had never met
before, Bishop Fukahori even
recognized Father Prud'homme, whose brother was
his classmate — the Bishop
detected the family resem
blance.
Bishop Fukahori's stay in
Montreal was filled with reliv
ing his cherished memories,
and now he has new
memories to carry back home
from the celebration of the
150th anniversary of his alma
mater and the reunion with
his classmates for the first
time since his ordination.
The Montreal Japanese
Catholic Group cordially
thanks Bishop Fukahori for
his visit.

Bishop Fukahori
of Takamatsu
visits Montreal
Catholic Mission
(Montreal Bulletin)
MONTREAL. - The St.
Paul Ibaraki Japanese
Catholic Mission had a plea
sant surprise on November 4,
1990 with an unexpected visit
from Most Reverend Joseph
Satoshi Fukahori, Bishop of 1
Takamatsu, Japan. He
celebrated a Mass in the
memory of late Father Claude
Labrecque, and gave a glimp
se of the Roman Synod where
he represented the Japanese
bishops.
It was truly inspiring to
hear the details of the Synod
first hand. The Mission
chapel was filled with Sisters
of Christ The King, Faithfuls
and friends. All were moved
greatly to hear that the main
event of the Synod was the
coming of bishops of Com
munist countries after 45
years of absence.
During the luncheon,
Bishop Fukahori showed
several photos of the Synod
taken with the Pope and other
bishops from 108 countries.
Bishop Fukahori is a
graduate of Grand Seminaire
de Montreal, where he
studied for five years during
his youth. He was ordained a
priest at Mary Queen of the
World Cathedral, and cele
brated his First Mass at
Hospital Sacre Coeur in Cartierville. His summer months
were often spent at Val
leyfield where Cardinal Leger
was then Vicar General.
Montreal and its surroun
ding place filled young Abbe
Fukahori's heart, and
memories lived vividly in his
heart for the past 36 years
without fading its colour.
Though they had never met
before, Bishop Fukahori even
recognized Father Prud'homme, whose brother was
his classmate — the Bishop
detected the family resem
blance.
Bishop Fukahori's stay in
Montreal was filled with reliv
ing his cherished memories,
and now he has new
memories to carry back home
from the celebration of the
150th anniversary of his alma
mater and the reunion with
his classmates for the first
time since his ordination.
The Montreal Japanese
Catholic Group cordially
thanks Bishop Fukahori for
his visit.
